Georgia officials say a big increase in individual income tax payments helped boost the state’s overall tax collections by 24 percent in April.
A news release from Gov. Brian Kemp’s office Monday said Georgia collected $2.87 billion in total taxes last month. That’s an increase of more than $559 million compared to April 2018.
Georgia officials attributed the big jump to people paying $307 million in individual income taxes, nearly 49 percent more than a year ago. The state also reported income tax refunds decreased by $40 million, or 6.5 percent.
Businesses paying corporate income taxes forked over 28.7 percent more in April than the previous year, for a total of $310.4 million. Corporate income tax refunds also increased by 5.4 percent.
