The Market
According to a University of Georgia report entitled, “The Multicultural Economy,” the ascendancy of Atlanta’s Black middle class is not simply a matter of population growth or general economic benefit, although those are factors. During the 1990’s, Atlanta’s proportion of Black middle and upper-income households grew four times faster than its white counterpart, and Black disposable income also grew significantly faster than their white counterparts. African-American income grew faster in Atlanta than among Blacks nationwide and account for 19.2 percent of all disposable income in Georgia.

Gaining a competitive edge in marketing to African-American consumers is now part of the overall marketing strategy for Fortune 500 companies and others who recognize the real profit potential. Media buyers and other marketers responsible for targeting the African-American consumer know now the value of this large and rapidly growing Atlanta market. The Atlanta Voice is clearly the medium of choice when it comes to tapping into this very lucrative and attractive consumer.

The Industry
As daily newspapers are cutting back, alternative and ethnic papers are the one sector of the industry that is thriving. Much of the success can be traced to the appeal ‘alternative’ papers hold for credibility that mainstream media lacks -local appeal, and addressing relevant issues from a perspective that readers can
relate to.

As the industry is shifting, The Atlanta Voice embraces the changes and utilizes online technologies to compliment and enhance our print product. In 2000, we launched our first website; it averages over 100,000 hits per month. In 2010, our new website will continue to showcase news and information that interest our online guest, as well as capture information about our unique visitors that will help us to better serve both our readers and our advertisers. Additionally, we are utilizing our very large and growing email database as a new and cost-effective form of distributing the e-Edition (the electronic version our weekly newspaper), as well as breaking news alerts, calendar of events and exclusive offers.

Our Mantra
“Redirect Redefine Refocus”

It’s where we’ve been, what we are doing and where we are going; it’s how we strive to be the best. Transforming from print to multimedia; embracing technology and change; knowing and continuously learning the wants and needs of our community as well as our advertisers. Transcending obstacles and
accepting opportunity.

Redirect Redefine Refocus…it’s what we do.

Distribution and Circulation
The Atlanta Voice is distributed weekly throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. Our circulation includes newsstand and distribution boxes, mailed subscriptions, and an array of store placements throughout Metropolitan Atlanta, including Kroger’s.
